Reading Notes: Ozaki-Part A

For this weeks reading I chose the Ozaki, also known as the Japanese Fairy Tales. Fairy Tales are my favorite types of stories that I have come upon so far in this course and also a big part of my Portfolio project. Therefore, I knew that this unit would help to give some ideas that I can use in my own project.

My favorite story in Part A was The Adventures of Kintaro, The Golden Boy. This tale was quite sweet and one that really had no prominent antagonist that needed to be overcome making it a happy-go-lucky easy read. I like how the story is told by an unknown narrator yet incorporates dialogue throughout.  This dialogue is definitely something that I need to refer back to and use in my own retelling of stories. The dialogue helps to give the story more depth and substance, as opposed to a singular voice in the narrator.

The flow throughout the Adventures of Kintaro was also smooth and easy to read. It was a somewhat longer story but did not feel like it due to the way in which the author wrote. I do want to fill in the gaps of the story that were left leaving the reader to fill them in. I personally like leaving some room for imagination, but when too many gaps are in a story, I am left wondering what actually happened and cannot focus on the main points of the story.

I also think that using animals in one of my stories would be a fun twist that I have not yet used. Wether or not an animal is an original character in one of my stories or not, I can always add it in to give my depiction a personal twist.

Introduction to Me:)

This is me.... (Image Information: personal photo of me; photo from August 2020.) My name is Carlee and I am entering into my Senior year!! (Super exciting, scary and sad all at the same time) The past three years have flown by and I have no doubt that this one will be the same. Hopefully, it doesn't go too fast, as I am still in the process of figuring out what my life will look like after graduating. I had always been the student in college that took as many classes as possible to try and graduate early until I realized that there was no fun in that. Now I am trying to enjoy my last year, take it as it comes and live in the moment.  Unrelated to school, I enjoy doing a lot of different random things. Thanks to quarantine, I have gone from a place where I could be featured on America's Worst Chefs to an advanced novice (those two words don't really belong together but you get the point) in all things sushi and tacos. I also have a great appreciation for reading and even g...

The owl commanded the king to bring his 3 best soldiers out to the city gates. Once there, the owl instructed them to each take a cistern of water and to head west. Once the men had run out of thier water that was were they would find a solution to the problem. As each man runs out of water he is to return home to the king. At last the king will have a solution.  As they set out, it was a terribly hot time of year and the first soldier drank up his water within a days time. The spot in which he landed was full of mulberry trees. At this discovery he quickly retu...
